Kuala Selangor is a town located in Selangor and is capital of an administrative district of the same name.

The town caters largely to tourists coming this way en-route to Kelip-Kelip (Fireflies) at Kampung Kuantan or local travelers on a trail of seafood binging. Kuala Selangor town is not particularly big and one can easily walk around without a map or a guide.

Kuala Selangor is an old royal capital of Selangor. It was conquered by the Dutch in 1784, when they successfully attempted to expand from their base in Malacca to control the tin trade of Perak and Selangor.

 

 

GETTING THERE

By Car

 

From KUALA LUMPUR
Get to Sungai Buloh exit from the North-South Highway and follow the road signs towards Kuala Selangor.

From KLANG, SELANGOR
Drive towards Kampar and head straight from there for Kuala Selangor.

 

 

By Bus

 

From KUALA LUMPUR
Hop on to the bus with a route number of 141 on it. In front of Puduraya Bus Station in Kuala Lumpur, buses depart every half an hour from 6.30 am. and the last bus is at 7.30 pm. If you are not staying a night in Kuala Selangor, the last bus to return Kuala Lumpur is at 7.45 pm. You don't have to buy tickets in advance as the fee for the journey is charged there and then, on the bus.

ATTRACTIONS

Melawati Hill

 

This landscaped hill offers a panoramic view of the Selangor coastline. Shaded by rain trees, it has several historical attractions such as the Altingburg Lighthouse, the Royal Mausoleum, and the ruined Kota (Fort) Melawati, the legendary 100 steps, a fable execution block, children's playground and a quaint rest house that offers wholesome meals for tired travelers.

Kuala Selangor Nature Park

 

The Kuala Selangor Nature Park covers more than 200 hectares of secondary shrubs, wetlands, inter-tidal mudflats and mangrove swamps. It is a world-renowned bird sanctuary, with about 160 species recorded here. It features hides, paths, watchtowers and boardwalks to enable visitors to view the variety of flora and fauna. Accommodation is available to those keen to experience the natural surrounding.

Kuala Selangor Fireflies

 

The quiet village of Kampung Kuantan is the site of the largest firefly colonies in the world. The nocturnal tours are extremely popular, with boats hired at the Kampung Kuantan jetty. The skilled local oarsmen make this experience a memorable and unforgettable one.
