Bujang Valley

At the beginning of the 20th. Century, a cluster of ancient structures mainly temples were discovered at the foothills of Gunung Jerai. The Bujang River, a tributary of the Merbok River, which flows down the slopes of Gunung Jerai known as the Bujang Valley or Lembah Bujang is the richest archaeological area in Peninsular Malaysia.

The Bujang Valley indicates that an ancient Hindu-Buddhist kingdom once ruled here as early as 3rd. or 4th. Century AD. Relics found at the site are now on display at the Bujang Valley Archaeological Museum in Pengkalan Bayang Merbok. A historical complex of approximately 224 sq. km. situated between Gunung Jerai in the north and Sungai Muda in the south.
